Burns Lake, BC

As we entered the town, two deer crossed the road in front of me.  They were close.. but not that close.
We see more deer near the towns then out.. maybe it is safer there.

On to Burns Lake and stopped at the town enterance park... a local Rotary project.

We met with local Rotarians and had lunch.. The  Club has made significate contributions to the Foundation this year so far with over $5500 contributed.  One member has added to this total a contribution of $1000  and has awarded RFAR a Gold Star.  Thank you for supporting the Foundation.

Sunny Smithers!

We left our hosts, Barb and Ken of Kitimat well fed and supplied for the road trip to Smithers.  It was raining, so I got to test out my gear.  It does not leak. 
By the time we got back to the junction at Terrace the road was dry.   We preceeded on to Smithers with a rest stop at Kitwanga and the start of the Cassiar Highway.

We arrived in the early afternoon to sunny spring weather.  A fabulous ride with dry roads and light traffic.  The Skeena turns into the Bulkley River as we proceed into the interior of BC.  We drove past  the magnificent Hazeltons the swollen Bulkley River filling with daily snowmelt.  This winter dropped the most snow that I have seen in all of my experience in this area of Canada.

In the evening we were presenters and the program for the  Smithers Rotary Club.  The reception warm and this was the biggest turnout so far.  President Gary presented me with a check for the Rotary Foundation, this in addition to their earlier contributions of over $4000.

Kitimat RFAR

We left Terrace and turned right to proceed to Kitimat.  This is a beautiful little town at the end of a long finger from the Pacific.  It is a seaport and houses one of the largest aluminium producing plants in the world.  Also they are gearing up to ship compressed natural gas.  This is a very happening place in BC. 
We were hosted by a long ago Rotary friend Barb and Ken.  She particularly liked the RFAR Barbie!

We had a social at the Golf and Winter Club with local Rotarians.  The visit was a success the presentation went well.  Kitimat Rotary supports RFAR.

Terrace Clubs meet RFAR

We met with the two clubs of Terrace, BC on a social basis at the Northern Motor Inn at Thornhill, BC and did a presentation on the Rotary Foundation. A good social time was had by all and the clubs are supportive of the RFAR Project.

The ride from Prince Rupert was just about perfect.. dry and overcast with sun breaks. We saw two wolfs on the road just before decending to the Skeena River. The beasts seemed confused by the approaching motorcycle and allowed me to get with in 50 feet of them as I slowed and held the horn button. The both looked pretty hungary.

The clubs have been generous and very supportive of the RFAR Project.

I am very thankful for the support recieved.

Off to Terrace, BC

Prince Rupert Rotarians sent us off with a lot of support and it was a fun time with great fellowship.. That is what Rotary is all about.

Here the Rotarians are give us the send off to Terrace BC. Just down the road a piece.. 100 miles or so..

RFAR

The Ride Begins!

We arrived in Prince Rupert in the am and were met by a life long Prince Rupertarian. We were shown the town cooks tour and picked up some local knowledge and lore. Micky's neighborhood? We were treated to lunch and invited to meet with Rotary Club members at 6pm at the Breakers Pub.

I was pleased to meet with the Mayor of Prince Rupert and share an idea about a suggested project that is being designed and artfully sculpted by David Rubin. The idea was recieved with great interest.

We had a nice social meeting with Rotarians in the evening and the Prince Rupert Club is to be commended on there annual Rotary Foundation fund raiser that brought in $15000. for the effort. Congratulations Rotarians, great support for the good things the Foundation does.
