Juneau pictures...

wet Juneau.

                                              The office

Post Office across from Juneau.

You Know.... JUNEAU!

I arrived on a Friday evening on the fast ferry Fairweather to a drizzle of a ride to Liz and Brian's in Douglas, Alaska.  Brian is a pal from a business partnership and the Ketchikan sailing squad.  He came to Alaska to work for Alaskamade.com.. a company that he now owns.  He is now one of the Juneau sailing champs and owns on of my favorite boats.. the Haiku.. a Yamaha 33 sloop.

So we relaxed and regenerated over the weekend.. he went sailing and I planned and blogged away.

I met up with the Juneau Tuesday noon club at the Baranof Hotel.  Greeted by Pres. Brenda and fellow club Rotarians. The Wednesday I visited the Glacier Valley Club with Pres. Bill.  Thursday I was up at the crack of dawn to present to the Gastineau Club presided by Pres. Mike.
All the clubs were welcoming and allowed me time to share my Foundation project with the full membership.

I was proud to present at the Glacier Valley Club a print of the "4Way Test" to Richard and Sharon
Burns for a very generous donation to Polio Plus and the Foundation (APF).

Visiting the Clubs is Preaching to the Choir here.. the Juneau Clubs are among the highest per-capita supporters in our District.   The clubs were all very supportive of my RFAR effort and thanked me for coming and presenting.

So, for the rest of my time here.. it has been touching base with friends and just being a tourist.  Great to have these connections in SE Alaska.

Tomorrow, ML and Sugar will arrive on the ferry and we head north to Haines and on to Fairbanks.

My blogger is not allowing pics.. will try a new set.

Sitka - RFAR

I arrived and found Jenn at the Condo- "Nasti".   It was really, very nice.  It is water front Sitka with a killer view of the islands and Mt Edgecome.  The killer cat... Ferral Bueller.. put up with me.   Hubby, Rick is delivering a sailboat from Hawaii.  I stayed with Jenn and she toured me through her new dream home on the hill that is in deep renovation.. Like change out the Kitchen and Bathroom and take that wall out of the living room.   She is hoping Rick will be happy with the changes.

The view to die for.  Mt Edgecome obscured.

I toured town and met up with Rotarians and made the RFAR Pitch.. We had a potluck and good fellowship.  I thank Jeff Budd for support from his Club..

Then toured a bit and set up to catch the next ferry to Juneau.

Sitka by the fastest ferry.

I left Juneau Wednesday on a sunny morning and lined up.   I neglected to get a picture of the fast ferry Fairweather.  This is one cool boat.  200 feet plus goes +30 knots is built by Derecktor Yachts and is all aluminum.  Fast and light.  Very comfortable to ride..burns a lot of fuel.  It is used as a day boat between Petersburg - Juneau - Sitka.   It is very nice inside.

You have to watch carefully because the scenery goes by twice as fast as the normal ferry's.

I arrived in Sitka at 1pm and met up with Jenn at the "Condo-Naste".  The condo is on the beach.  Nice.   With the snarling cat "Ferel Bueller".  Jenn says "She doesn't like men."   I have been sweet talking to her and she is calming down.   Went for a tour of Jenn n Rick's house on the hill.top.  Way up there in the sky.. one of the highest in Sitka.. a view all the way to the coast.  They are doing a remodel and will move in September.
We when for dinner at he famous "Channel Club".  Great scotch and prime.. Reputation maintained.

I met up with my Rotarian friend Jeff Budd and we are up for a presentation to Sitka Rotary at the Unitarian Hall.  RFAR is ready..

So I do the fast ferry back to Juneau tomarrow.. I will get some pictures.

Petersburg AK... aka "Little Norway"

Hello all..
The adventure began on Sunday July 14, 2013

My GSE(Group Study Exchange) Partner met me at the dock and welcome me to her Victorian style classic home.  I was given a room with a feather bed.. it cannot be beat.   Susan and a team of other non Rotarians returned from Norway this month 20 years ago.  We traveled on a Rotary Foundation sponsored education exchange.  The trip, created friends for life and an experience that motivates me in Rotary to this day.   Thank you Susan Erickson for hosting me.

I met with Petersburg Rotarians this morning and made the appeal for support for the Foundation and it's good works.  I distributed Fact Cards and leadership brochures.  I felt well received.

In the afternoon I rode the RFAR1 out to the end of the road on the Mitkoff Highway.   Was a beautiful day and only two critters spotted.. Porcupines.  Missed both.

Gas in Petersburg is $4.98 per gallon.  So quit whining..

I take a "fast" ferry to Juneau tomarrow.   Then catch a ferry to Sitka on Wednesday.

The mighty Stikine River  at low tide.

The end of the Road!  Who says you can't ride in the dirt!
